Wedding FAQ

  • Can I bring a plus one?
For our family, your invite includes the household. For our friends, your invite includes your significant other or a plus one of your choice. Feel free to reach out to Helen or Ryan if you're not sure.
  • What can we bring you as a gift?
In lieu of traditional gifts, your presence is the greatest gift of all! We know that most of you are coming from a far away land, so please don't feel obligated to bring gifts. Should you wish to contribute to the day, we ask that you consider the following (as we are limited in what we can take back with us to YYC): 1) As this wedding is largely a DIY celebration, we're looking for as many hands as we can over the course of the weekend! If you have a want to help out, please drop us a line; 2) If you'd like to give a monetary gift, we have a honeymoon fund you can contribute to by e-transferring ryanfoisy@hotmail.com or bringing a card with cash; 3) Ryan and I always have a soft spot for handmade gifts if you so desire ;)
  • Do you have an itinerary?
A more detailed itinerary will be shared as formal invites are sent out.
  • Is this a child-friendly event?
Yes, absolutely! When submitting your RSVP (invitations to be sent in 2025), please re-submit the form for each child you intend to bring. There will be horses and games onsite, and we have full access to the property.
  • What is the dress code?
We're getting married in a barn -- wear what you wish! Generally, we're aiming for Dressy Casual. If you'd like to match the party, our wedding colours are fall-themed, so wear anything to match the leaves.
  • Can we take photos throughout the day?
We will have a professional photographer join us for most of the day. That said, we welcome you to capture your favourite moments from our special day. Please be mindful of obstructing views during the ceremony and speeches. We will also set up a way for you to share your photos with us.
  • What time should we arrive at the wedding?
For those not camping onsite, try to come by at some point between 3:00 PM and 3:45 on Saturday to ensure enough time to get seated. For those looking to camp onsite, please contact us for arrival details.
  • When do we need to RSVP by?
We will send out formal invitations in the late-spring/early summer with a request to RSVP by August 31, 2025. If you know you won't be able to make it in advance of us sending out these invitations, please feel free to reach out!
  • Will the ceremony or reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will take place outdoors, with the reception taking place inside Polmena Barn. Come equipped with layering options in case its a brisk day. If there is any precipitation the ceremony will be moved inside the barn.
  • Is the venue accessible?
Yes, the barn is built up to AODA building requirements, and comes equipped with an accessible washroom and ramp into the facility. We can set aside accessible parking spaces upon request. Let us know if there are any supports you'd need ot meaningfully attend the event!
  • Are the wedding ceremony and the reception at the same venue?
Yes, all of Saturday's activities are at Polmenna Barn from 4 PM - Midnight.
  • Will I need to drive to this event?
While driving offers the most flexibility for getting to and from the venue, we will be offering a shuttle service throughout the course of the weekend for those unable to drive or looking for another option. Feel free to reach out to Ryan and I for details. More information will be posted closer to RSVP time (late-spring, early summer).
  • Is there available parking?
Yes, the wedding venue has ample parking.
  • Where can we stay?
There are a plethora of options, from hotels to rentals and even camping on site if you so choose! (camping supplies not provided). See the Travel and Stay page on our website for more details.
  • Will there be drinks?
There will be an open bar - need we say more? There will be alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
  • Are you able to accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes! Our selection of food considers many common dietary restrictions. You can also inform us of any dietary restrictions when you RSVP so we can ensure we have the right options for you!
  • Will there be food?
Of course! Our wedding will feature cocktail hour appetizers, a dinner buffet, as well as late night snacks for those that need to refuel after carving up the dance floor.
